Men are not God and can never be. God is superior. Men are not lords over women as many think, men are supposed to be head of their families, a husband, father and a friend. Your role as a leader is to serve. It isn't to use your position to intimidate your own family, abuse or cause them pains, but to bring them relief, smiles, hope, comfort and above all to love them.
You are not a real man if you cannot serve your own family. "But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers" - 1 Timothy 5:8 (NLT).
Many people don't know what makes a man and the aim of this message is to help them get back to their default status. The bible clearly stated in 1 Corinthians 11:3 that "The head of every man is Christ". And any man who doesn't know Christ is considered a headless man. A man with no head lacks God's wisdom, His direction and he is a lost man.
Such a man subjects his household to ill treatment, neglects them, doesn't care for them, doesn't love them, doesn't listen to them, is not someone the family can count on. He is a source of his wife's pains, the root of his children's suffering, and the cause of his family's downfall.
The first man was placed in the presence of God, where he lived under God's roof. "So the Lord God took the man [He had made] and settled him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it" - Genesis 2:15 (AMP).
To cultivate means to grow, and you grow something by taking care of it, giving it attention and all that it needs, never giving up on it. It also means God didn't create a man to be lazy. God didn't create a man to be idle but to work and take care of himself and the family.
A man who doesn't know God cannot keep his wife and family. Keeping simply means you don't do things that will make you lose them. It means you do things that will make them stay with you and be happy with you. You don't put them through pains and heart break, you don't hurt them and you don't abandon them.
You are not a man or a husband if you can't help your wife in the home; helping with cooking, helping with the children, helping with the cleaning of the house, doing things that eases your wife's burden; being the solid support for the family. Men are created differently; we are given muscle; power and strength to be able to do that. Not to use our strength against or to abuse people; God gave that for their protection.
Men are to lead their wives on the righteous path, lead them towards God, be in tune with God and teach their wives and household the right ways. Men are fathers; a good example to the family, help the children to learn proper boundaries and consequences. Not someone who leaves all his children's care, development and responsibility on the wife or woman. He is a partner to his wife and shares her workload, shows her respect, loves her and is faithful to her. He treats his wife as a queen and his children as princes and princesses. His home is like the palace where love, peace and order reigns.
In conclusion, any man who wants to be great should learn to be a servant in his own house. “The more lowly your service to others, the greater you are. To be the greatest, be a servant" - Matthew 23:11 (TLB).
